Chapters
Charters may be granted to colleges or schools of medicine
that are fully accredited by the Coordinating Council on Medical
Education and meet the society's requirements. Application for
it charter is signed by the dean of the institution and members
of the faculty of medicine who are Alpha Omega Alpha members.
Representatives of the society then visit the institution and
make their recommendation. If it is favorable, the application
is voted on by the board of directors and the governing council.
Granting of a new charter to an institution is a signal event.
The president of the society presents the charter to the dean of
the institution in a formal ceremony attended by the president of
the university, representatives of the governing body, students,
