Student Research Day
On March 25th, 2009, Upstate Medical University will be hosting Student
Research Day, the first event ever dedicated only to students, which will
include the Colleges of Medicine, Health Professions, Nursing, and Graduate
Studies. This is a unique AΩA event that fosters collegiality
and the open exchange of scientific ideas. AΩA members provide support in
the construction of the abstract, the design of the poster, and the
presentation of the work. Students involved in basic science and clinical
research are encouraged to participate as well as students involved in public
policy and advocacy projects. The day's activities will begin with oral platform presentations
from 1-4 pm, a keynote speaker from 4-5, and a poster session with
refreshments from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
This is an excellent opportunity for students who have been or are
currently involved in research during their tenure as Upstate students to
present their work and build their curriculum vitae. It is also a great
venue for interested students to learn about potential research
opportunities at Upstate. The program welcomes many different kinds of
research, from bench to clinical research to clinical case vignettes.
Research can have taken place elsewhere, but should have occurred during a
student's enrollment at Upstate.
Abstracts are being accepted until December 1st, and can be emailed to Lynn Gleason at
gleasoly@upstate.edu and cc’d to Heidi Conklin at conklinh@upstate.edu.
Interested students should indicate a preference for a 15-minute platform presentation or
poster presentation. AΩA will sponsor a workshop in the beginning
of the spring term on how to create a poster for those interested.
This
event is hosted by the AΩA gamma chapter, the College of Medicine, the
Office of the Dean, the Office of Research Development, and the Curriculum
Office.
