March of Dimes Salutes the African American Community

Monday, February 13 thru Thursday, February 16

The exhibit features a tribute to March of Dimes celebrity ambassadors from the 1940s to current day, including Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis, Jackie Robinson, Sammy Davis Jr., Pearl Bailey and others. Also included are historical notes on Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the organization’s early partnership with Tuskegee Institute, and the evolution of the mission of the March of Dimes.

Impact of Faith and Religion on Patients and Health Providers: A Diversity Lecture

Speaker: Frank E. Young MD, PhD ‘56. This talk focuses on how to take a social history that includes a faith history and how to identify the faith lens through which a person views his or her disease. Also covers ways to bridge the cultural divide between and among health care providers and patients when there is a difference in faith and shows how the health care provider can understand if his or her faith is helping or inhibiting the outcome. Free and open to the public.

Heart and Soul: Women of Color in Medicine

Each panelist will share her journey into the fields of science and medicine. All will discuss the unique
variables that face women of color, specifically in the field of medicine; share how they have put their collegiate
science and pre-med backgrounds to use in their personal and professional lives and assist current
students in exploring the many options, challenges and rewards of their field. Free and open to public.
