Technology Transfer
Technology developed by State of New York faculty finds its way into the marketplace through:
The Research Foundation's Technology Transfer Office was established in 1979 to identify and protect SUNY-developed technologies and to create partnerships with industry to further research and license inventions for public use. Technology transfer is a catalyst for economic development and generates royalty income for researchers and their campuses.
SUNY currently ranks among the top 20 patent-generating universities in the US. The Technology Transfer Office aims to improve that ranking by achieving the following objectives:
-
increase the number of invention disclosures from SUNY faculty
-
network with industry to market SUNY technologies effectively
-
create opportunities for investors to select SUNY technologies for their portfolios
To meet these objectives, SUNY faculty are urged to submit Invention Disclosure Forms. Once the Technology Transfer Office has received the completed and signed Invention Disclosure Forms, staff will conduct a search for similar patents and prepare a Market Opportunity Analysis (MOA) for each submission to determine whether or not to apply for a patent.
