Health Sciences Library
The Health Sciences Library, founded in 1834, is the oldest department of the Upstate Medical University. The Library's mission is to meet the current and emerging health information service, resource and facility needs of the SUNY Upstate communities.
The Library provides access to over 1,800 full text electronic health sciences journals; an extensive collection of eBooks; a growing collection of streaming media such as the Bates Guides to Physical Examination; and a variety of online resources such as MEDLINE, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Krames on Demand, Scopus, UpToDate, etc. The Library provides direct access to its catalog and electronic collections through its web page. The Library maintains close affiliations with the libraries of Syracuse University and the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. The research collections of other state and area libraries and the National Library of Medicine are accessible through the National Network of Libraries of Medicine Interlibrary Loan Network and the New York State interlibrary loan network. Additional support for the Clinical Campus in Binghamton comes from the SUNY at Binghamton Science Library and the libraries of Our Lady of Lourdes, United Health Services and Robert Packer Hospital.
Library staff consists of twelve librarians with faculty appointments and thirteen additional professionals. Contact us for assistance with searching the evidence based practice and research literatures; curriculum related instruction; consumer health information; citation analysis; individual and department consultations; obtaining articles not available in the Library's collections; course reserves, etc. You have questions. We find answers!
The Library is open, on average, 106 hours per week. The Library offers several types of study and collaborative space including individual rooms, group rooms, carrels, quiet space and a meditation room. The Library also provides space for art exhibits and can accommodate approximately 200 persons at special events.
