Technology Transfer services at Upstate are designed to identify and protect SUNY-developed technologies and create partnerships with industry to further research and license inventions for public use. Technology transfer is a catalyst for economic development and generates royalty income for researchers and their campuses.

SUNY currently ranks among the top 20 patent-generating universities in the US. Upstate's Technology Transfer Office aims to improve that ranking by achieving the following objectives:

  • Increase the number of invention disclosures from SUNY faculty
  • Network with industry to market SUNY technologies effectively
  • Create opportunities for investors to select SUNY technologies for their portfolios

To meet these objectives, SUNY faculty with new ideas are urged to submit New Technology Disclosure forms to the Vice President for Research, who works in partnership with the Research Foundation of SUNY's Technology Transfer Office to pursue patents and license agreements for appropriate technology disclosures.
