What is the purpose of the study?
The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not giving a drug called sunitinib after a response to chemotherapy (tumor shrinks or stops growing) will help tumors continue to shrink, or stay the same.

Who is eligible?
Diagnosis of advanced stage non-small cell lung cancer that has been treated by chemotherapy and has not progressed, no significant heart disease, good performance status and adequate bone marrow, liver and kidney function tests.

What is involved if I participate?

  • How long is the study?
    Treatment on this study will continue until the doctor decides the treatment is no longer working or until subjects decide they no longer want to participate. After subjects are done with the study treatment, they will have a physical examination and CT scan of the chest and nearby organs every 3 months for the first year, then every 6 months for 2 years from study entry.

  • What tests and procedures are involved?
    Procedures/Tests: If you take part in this study, you will have the following tests and procedures: " Physical Examination " Blood tests including TSH " Pregnancy test, if you are a woman of child-bearing potential " CT scan or MRI of chest and other organs in the chest area " Bone scan or PET scan " MRI scan of the brain " EKG Several of these tests will be repeated during the study. If you participate in this study, some of these tests may be done more frequently than if you were not taking part in this research study.
