Dr. Kernan is a 1987 graduate of the St. Joseph's Hospital residency who returned to join the faculty in 1988 after private practice in Glens Falls, N.Y. He is a graduate of Colorado State University and the Universidad de Navarra for medical studies in Pamplona, Spain. Dr. Kernan is a Team I Attending Physician, Associate Professor of Family Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University and Associate Residency Director whose primary responsibilities are to coordinate and manage the private faculty practice.
Dr. Kernan is certified and qualified in Sports Medicine and also serves as a consultant to the Syracuse University Athletic Department. Dr. Kernan has served as school physician at East Syracuse Minoa Central School system. He has received the Outstanding Teacher in Family Medicine Award two times since his arrival at St. Joseph's. Dr. Kernan's interests include sports medicine, school health, teaching Introduction to Clinical Medicine, and biking. Dr. Kernan is also currently the coordinator of the residency's Practice Management curriculum.
