Calypso

RadOnc Acquires GPS Technology to Treat Prostate Cancer

External beam radiation therapy has been an option for treating prostate cancer for many years. Now, for the first time ever, doctors have a way to monitor the tumor location during treatment. The CalypsoŽ 4D Localization SystemTM, referred to as GPS for the BodyŽ, enables doctors to focus the delivery of radiation to the tumor while minimizing damage to the healthy surrounding tissues.

Theraview

Oswego County Radiation Oncology now providing Image Guided Radiation Therapy

Oswego County Radiation Oncology has completed the installation of the Theraview Electronic Portal Imaging System. The Theraview system facilitates precise radiation treatment delivery through the use of Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT). Immediately prior to each radiation treatment, the system takes a real-time x-ray image of the patient and compares it to the reference image. Theraview then instructs the therapist of any changes, thereby allowing the re-positioning of the patient, as necessary, to ensure the delivery of radiation is accurate.

This latest technology allows delivery of intense doses of radiation to complex target areas while minimizing the dose to surrounding healthy tissue and critical structures.

RapidArc

RapidArc—Now Available at Hill Radiation Oncology

RapidArcTM radiotherapy technology from Varian Medical Systems is a new approach to image-guided, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IG-IMRT) that delivers precise treatments in shorter times than conventional IMRT.

RapidArc represents a major medical advance and is more comfortable for patients because they spend less time in their daily treatments. A fast, precise RapidArc treatment takes less than two minutes. Patients can be in and out of treatment quickly and return to their daily routine.
