CHUA or IRB approval is required before doing any projects involving animals or human subjects.

A "user utilization request form" should be filled out when requesting scanner time.

Policies

The operation of the facility is overseen by a MRI Core Advisory Committee:
Stephen Albanese, Ken Barker, Mantosh Dewan, David Feiglin, Walter Hall, John Lucas, Jeremy Shefner, Nick Szeverenyi, Gwen Tillapaugh-Fay and Grace VanNortwick.

IHP MRI Core Facility POLICY
effective date 07/01/07 through 12/31/08

• All Upstate Departments are eligible to receive a discounted rate of MRI Research Core machine time for research studies not funded by a non-Upstate source.
• All Upstate Departments and others utilizing the MRI Research Core will pay for all research time used.
• All human and/or animal studies must have IRB and/or CHUA approval.
• Funded projects will have priority over discounted-rate studies for scheduling.
• Research study scheduling time is available on Mondays 12PM to 4PM, Wednesdays all day, and Fridays all day.
• RATES:
  $283/hr discounted rate for UMU-Upstate Faculty Department funded projects
  $283/hr discounted rate for UMU - Hendrick’s funded projects;
  $335/hr for Upstate External Funded projects (as per the SUNY guidelines
  for Service Centers and Federal Cost Accounting Standards);
  $500/hr for non-Upstate External and Industry projects;
  $ 50/hr for technical time data post-processing;
  (rates will be honored for proposals registered/in process prior to July ‘05 for the project)
• Before any new project start the MRI Core Facility will receive the IHP MRI Resource Utilization Request Forms with IRB and/or CHUA documentation. Scientific review of all requests will be conducted by the MRI Research Core Scientific Director to determine final approval of the project proposal.
• There will be an option to purchase block time for larger funded projects.
• Users will be billed by the Upstate Bursar’s Office and funds will be deposited in an IHP Income Fund Reimbursable Account (account 900-215-04).
• Free of charge research time will not be permitted on any MRI at Upstate Medical University. Researchers will be expected to pay the same rate per hour for use of other MRI machine time as is charged at the MRI Research Core Facility located at the Institute for Human Performance.
• Only research users trained and approved by the MRI Research Core Scientific Director will be permitted to operate the equipment for research activities.
• Clinical Activity will be performed on the Research MRI by University Hospital. Time reserved for clinical activity is Monday from 9 AM to 12 PM, all day Tuesday and all day Thursday.
