The Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine provides opportunities for MPH and medical students to see public health and preventive medicine in action. Students work side by side with public health practitioners in a variety of settings including local health departments, community agencies and faith-based groups. Faculty, also, provide assistance to these groups through consultation and research.
Through their fieldwork and Culminating Experience experiences, Master of Public Health students experience first- hand the principles and practices they learn in the classroom.
Medical students, in the preventive medicine component of their medical education, observe public health practitioners in such varied settings as the local county jail, early intervention and lead screening program. They can further sharpen their public knowledge and skills by doing a public health elective or public health selective.
