With the Fabulous Fifties as the theme, more than 500 area cancer survivors participate annually in this event sponsored by Upstate Medical University. Invited survivors ranged in age from 11 to 87 years old.
Top cancer researcher studying new drug treatments named pharmacology chair
Ziwei Huang, Ph.D., will head the pharmacology department and lead Upstate’s new Cancer Research Institute that will foster greater collaboration among cancer researchers and address new drug development.

New scholarship is named for Susan Stearns in honor of role in community outreach
Medical students create scholarship to recognize Stearns for her work in various community outreach efforts, among them a blanket drive for area refugees, a science fair for city schools. Scholarship winner will share Stearns' community spirit.

Upstate offers respiratory therapy courses at Jefferson Community College
North Country offering hopes to tackle shortage of area healthcare professionals. Need for respiratory therapists is strong and expected to grow.

Upstate Medical receives $1.96M grant from NIH to study blood cancers
Researchers will use genetically modified mice to study cause and spread of four different blood cancers. Findings from study may lead to new and more effective treatment.
