On Sat., June 7, 2008, SUNY Upstate employees volunteered at the Third Annual Literacy Parade and Festival in Syracuse. The Festival was kicked off with a Literacy Parade from Dr. King Elementary on E. Raynor Ave. to Beard School on West Kennedy St. in downtown Syracuse. Pictured are SUNY Upstate employees Mary Nelson, who led the parade, and Brad Long and Edgar Johnson who marched with a SUNY Upstate banner honoring our medical school’s first African American graduate, Dr. Sarah Logeun, class of 1876.
