Syracuse Center for Psychotherapy
Studying and Teaching Therapeutic Processes
The Syracuse Center for Psychotherapy (SCP) is a resource center of the Department of Psychiatry for healthcare professionals to further their educational and research interests in psychotherapy.
The need for psychotherapy originates in human problems and human relationships. Psychotherapy, in its many forms, is a process that makes every effort to attend to the whole person in the hope of augmenting health, not only by relieving pain, but also by engendering a broader experience of self, balancing autonomy and intimacy. At the core of the therapeutic process is the therapeutic relationship. In a psychotherapist’s development, the process of learning is as important as the content of the learning. The Syracuse Center for Psychotherapy is working to enrich the learning process in support of every therapist’s growth.
The SCP brings together a multidisciplinary group of psychotherapists within the Department of Psychiatry having diverse theoretical perspectives, teaching activities, and research interests.
These include the following:
Theoretical perspectives
Therapy modalities as areas of study
Formal training programs
Research and scholarly activities related to psychotherapy
Current educational opportunities
(Open to practitioners in the community, including conferences, courses, web-links, workshops, consultations, and a weekly grand rounds series.)
