The philosophy of the Psychiatric Addiction Service is to use all innovations available in addiction psychiatry in order to provide culturally-competent treatment.

These innovations come from recent developments in neuropsychoanalysis (a school of psychoanalysis that applies 21st century neuroscience to Freud's neurologically-based psychology; used to enhance consciousness of addiction and how denial works in each patient), neuroscience of addiction, other developing psychotherapies and pharmacology. Culturally-competent care is delivered by physicians and other medical providers who understand how drugs change the brain, and what to do about it. Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous are regarded as a fundamental part of treatment for most patients. Outcome statistics generate feedback for our practitioners regarding the efficacy of various interventions.
