He has served on the faculty for over 42 years in various roles including Director of residency training, Director of undergraduate education (medical school), Director of the Behavioral Science Program, and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry from 1985 until 1999. For the College of Medicine he has served on and chaired many committees, including the Faculty Appointments and Promotions Committee, which he chaired for over 12 years. He also served on the Part 1 Committee of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for 24 years.
