NYS OMH & OASAS Intensive Dual Recovery Training
for Experienced Supervisors and Case Managers Lesson Plan Description
The following Lesson Plan for the NYS OMH & OASAS Intensive Dual Recovery Training is for experienced dual recovery clinical supervisors, case managers, and other direct service leadership staff. The training topics were determined from existing nationally recognized curriculum and training outlines, review and knowledge of literature regarding co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorders, and topics defined by the focus groups. The guiding principles of the presentations are that they are the most current, relevant, and promising practices available.
Presentations will carry forward
and apply all previously learned material.
The training will incorporate the SIX CORE COMPETENCY AREAS identified at the Forum consistent with the SAMHSA Addiction Counseling Competencies: The Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes of Professional Practice (TAP Series 21). In addition, family, consumer, and self-help will be integrated throughout all the training topics.

The Intensive Dual Recovery Training effort is designed to encourage local collaboration between OMH and OASAS certified agencies. The Intensive Dual Recovery Training consists of ten (once-monthly) four-hour contact sessions in six geographic "cluster group" sites. Participation will be by approximately 600 experienced dual recovery clinical supervisors, case managers, and other direct service leadership staff. OMH and OASAS, in collaboration with the NYS Conference of Local Mental Hygiene Directors, identify the participants for each "cluster group."
Purpose of Intensive Dual Recovery Training for Experienced Supervisors and Case Managers :
-
Training will strengthen existing cross network relationships in dual recovery or will encourage the development of ones where none exist by facilitating at each session trainee- based discussions and review of their common and diverse reactions to the training experience.
-
Training will expose experienced supervisors and case managers from both OMH and OASAS to a progressive series consisting of current trends and development in the field of dual recovery.
-
Participants are expected to utilize information and skills learned in this workshop series in direct care and in supervision at their home clinical sites.
