Application Process for Graduate Programs
Thank you for your interest in SUNY Upstate Medical University. The webpages for our graduate programs outline information about the programs, pre-requisite courses and the application process:
Physician Assistant (MS): The CASPA application opens in April. The link to the supplemental application will be e-mailed to each applicant upon submission of the CAPSA application. December 1 is the CASPA application deadline and January 15 is the deadline for SUNY Upstate Supplemental application and all supporting materials
Nursing (MS): The fall Masters and RN-to-MS applications open in September. The application must be submitted by January 15 and completed by February 15. Admission is rolling. Fall Post-Masters applications are on rolling admission until June 1. The Doctor of Nursing Practice deadline for fall 2013 is June 1.
With the exception of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program, all nursing programs for fall 2013 are closed. The deadline to apply to the Doctor of Nursing Practice program is June 1.
Medical Technology (MS): The Medical Technoogy Masters application opens in September. Admission is rolling. The last day to apply to the Medical Technology, MS program is July 1. All required items must be received by July 15.
Public Health (MPH/Certificate): The Public Health MS and Certificate application open in September. The deadline for applications and the postmark for supporting documents is April 30. Priority will be given to those who apply and provide all requested materials by March 1. Admission is rolling.
Physical Therapy (DPT): For regular admission applicants (college seniors and college graduates): The PTCAS application opens in July. The link to the supplemental application will be e-mailed to each applicant upon submission of the PTCAS application starting in August. The application and all supporting materials are due no later than February 1. Admission is rolling. For high school seniors applying Early Admission (3+3 or 4+3): The 3+3 and 4+3 application opens September 1. While the deadline is February 1, we recommend applicants submit their application by January 2. All supporting documents must be post-marked by February 1.
Medicine (MD): October 15 is the AMCAS application deadline and December 1 is the SUNY Upstate Supplemental application deadline. The link to the supplemental application will be e-mailed to each applicant upon submission of the AMCAS application.
College of Graduate Studies (MS and PhD): There are no application deadlines for the Doctoral (PhD) and Masters of Science (MS) programs in the College of Graduate Studies. However, review of applications begins early December. For PhD applications, priority will be given to those applying before April 1st.
Notes and recommendations for applicants to Upstate's graduate degree programs:
- Pre-advisement sessions are available for students who would like to meet with an Admissions Advisor to discuss transfer credit and the application process. Sessions are optional, not required. Schedule a pre-advisement session to meet with an Admissions Advisor to learn about discuss transfer credit and the application process.
- Review the prerequisite courses for your intended program as outlined on the program's webpage. Applicants do not need to have all the pre-requisites completed to apply but all prerequisites must be completed by the time the program begins.
- With the exception of Nursing (MS), all programs require an interview as part of the application process. Interviews are by invitation only. The Admissions Committee meets several weeks after the interview to make a decision on the applicant's application. Decisions are sent out via e-mail.
- All programs begin in late August with the exceptions of 1) Physician Assistant (MS) and Physical Therapy (DPT) which start in June and 2) Nursing (MS) which begins in January or August.
