Toxicology Teaching Programs

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

• Become familiar with laboratory methods and limitations in application to the poisoned patient
• Identify new and interesting media reports of poisoning and their application to future planning and poisoning identification efforts
• Describe practice changing articles from the past several years and specific ways in which everyday practice of management of poisoned patient has changed
• Discuss the controversies and issues involved in identification of the acetaminophen poisoned patient and appropriate use of n-acetylcysteine based upon differing case presentations
• Identify the critical syndromes and management strategies for patients presenting after exposure to herbal dietary supplements
• Identify critical issues to evaluate in the care of the pediatric poisoned patient
