Diabetes Therapy Services
Individuals with diabetes can benefit from exercise and activity; however, pain and other factors may limit the ability to perform some activities. The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department provides physical therapy for individuals with diabetes. This service includes a comprehensive evaluation and treatment. The therapist will provide you with an individualized exercise program, while taking into account your pain or other limitations. The exercise program is designed so that it can be carried out in your home or in the community. The therapist works closely with the Joslin Diabetes Center and your physician/healthcare provider.
Who Can Benefit from Therapy?
People with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
What Should You Expect from Your Therapy?
The exercise prescription for people with diabetes often includes aerobic/cardiovascular exercises and resistance/strengthening exercises. People with diabetes who perform regular exercise can see many benefits, including improved endurance, strength, flexibility, blood glucose levels, cholesterol, blood pressure, body weight and ability to do daily activities.
