Medical History

(Chapter 4, pg. 23-25)

Medical history with caretaker should be sought prior to the exam and separate from the child. Suggested questions include:

  • Does your daughter have any vaginal pain or discomfort?
  • Does s/he have any staining in her/his underwear? Any discharge from the genitals?
  • Any recurring abdominal pain?
  • When was s/he toilet trained?
  • Has s/he been wetting during the day or night recently? If so, is this a new or a recurrent problem?
  • Does your child have any rectal discomfort or pain on urination? Has there been any rectal
  • blood or blood in the urine?
  • Has s/he been having any fecal soiling during the day or night? If so, is this a new or recur- rent problem?
