Sexually Transmitted Diseases

(Chapter 5, pg. 49-52)

Presumptive treatment of children and adolescents who have been sexually abused is not widely recommended. However, some children or their caretakers may be very concerned about the possibility of contracting an STD, even if the risk as perceived by the health care practitioner is low.

The following recommendations are made for prophylactic therapy:

Ceftriaxone, 125 mg intramuscularly, in a single dose
plus
Metronidazole, 2 g orally, in a single dose
plus
Doxycycline, 100 mg orally, two times a day for 7 days
