Integrate forensic evidence collection procedures into physical examination

Equipment List (*indicates equipment needed for evidence collection)
  • *New York State Sexual Offense Evidence Collection Kit
  • *plain envelopes
  • *paper bags (various sizes)
  • wet mount and swabs
  • *extra cotton swabs, slides
  • *tape and stapler
  • *marking pen or grease pencil, pencil
  • *Patient labels (#35 to 40)
  • appropriate size gown, cover sheet
  • examination or pelvic light
  • woods lamp (if available)
  • GC culture media (3) and swabs, C02 tablets
  • culture and sensitivity culturette tubes (micro tip swabs)
  • chlamydia culture media (2) and swabs
  • distilled water or sterile saline
  • pediatric feeding tube
  • urinanalysis cup
  • guaiac cards and indicator
  • *phlebotomy equipment (of age-appropriate gauge)
  • *pediatric purple top blood tubes
  • polaroid camera or 35 rum camera and film-
  • photo placemat, ruler, color bar
  • *clothing to replace confiscated clothes
  • colposcope (optional)
  • vaginal speculam (optional)

Note: An adult size speculum should never be used to examine a prepubescent child. If required, a Huffman speculum or pediatric Graves speculum is recommended. A Pederson speculum can be used in adolescents.
