Information for Professionals about Child Sexual Abuse

caregirl Health care professionals are in a unique position to identify abused and neglected children.  Routine medical care affords an opportunity to address family issues that may lead to abuse and neglect while physical examinations allow for identification of abusive injuries.

The Need for Professional Education...

  • Diagnosis of abuse requires a broad base of  pediatric knowledge
  • Subtle signs and symptoms can be missed or accidental injuries or medical conditions may be mistaken for abuse
  • Abused children require skilled medical evaluations and care in order to assess injury and provide support for emotional healing
  • A critical step in the process of identifying and prosecuting child abuse is a medical assessment by a health care provider with specialized training in this area.

How We Can Help the Health Care Professional...

  • By offering a single, comprehensive source of child abuse information that provides tools and resources with which to diagnose and manage child and adolescent abuse victims through www.ChildAbuseMD.com.
