About Us

The Pediatrics Department at University Hospital is the primary pediatric care facility for Syracuse and Onondaga County and the regional referral and consultation center that provides comprehensive pediatric care to 17 counties in Upstate New York. Our physicians are internationally recognized for their treatment of such diseases as cystic fibrosis, diabetes, growth disorders, childhood cancers, primary hypertension, asthma and diseases of the newborn, as well as many other disorders. We are the Region's only pediatric medical center and Level I trauma and burn center - one of the largest geographic referral areas in the state. We are also one of only 125 academic medical centers in the country - a unique and valuable resource for Central New York.

Golisano Children's Hospital Opening 2009!

Opening in 2009, the Golisano Children's Hospital will be the signature piece of the East Wing vertical expansion at University Hospital. Housed on the top two floors of the expansion, the new children's center will provide over 87,000 square feet of space devoted to patient and family friendly amenities.

The dedicated “tree-house” entrance will welcome patients and visitors with an atmosphere made just for kids. The new facility will operate as a 'hospital-within-a-hospital' and enhance the pediatric education and research missions that are integral to University Hospital, as well as continue to serve as a vocal advocate for regional children's health issues.

...as well as over 450 graduate physicians in our residency and fellowship training programs. And the faculty in both the basic and the clinical sciences of all our colleges participate in over 400 funded research projects University Hospital offers a full spectrum of primary and specialized medical care for pediatric patients. Our dedicated pediatric staff care for patients, in an inpatient setting, that consists of General Pediatrics, Pediatric Surgical Unit, hematology/oncology, the only pediatric intensive care unit in a 17-county referral area and the only dedicated pediatric Emergency Department between Rochester and Vermont.
