The Residency Program in Pathology at SUNY Upstate Medical University is predominantly located at the SUNY Upstate Medical University. Rotations are also scheduled within the Veterans Administration Medical Center and Wilson Memorial Hospital, Binghamton, NY. Residents spend the vast majority of their time at SUNY Upstate Medical University.
The functional goal of the Residency in Pathology is to provide a superior training experience in all the disciplines encompassing Pathology. The Program is designed to provide comprehensive training for those residents pursuing the combined Anatomic-Clinical Pathology Program. The program prepares trainees for the competent, independent practice of Pathology.
Training consists of direct experience and responsibility in the management of clinical cases in a variety of settings and is supplemented and made more comprehensive by a planned curriculum of case based teaching conferences. Exposure to a broad range of experiences in Anatomic, Clinical and experimental pathology provide opportunity for residents to explore individual interests and serve as a foundation for career in academic pathology or community practice. The success of the program depends on mutual respect between the faculty and the residents, as well as commitment by all to both the service and educational objectives.
