Upstate Medical University serves a 17-county territory that extends from the Canadian boarder to the Pennsylvania boarder. The Department of Pathology provides outreach services beyond University Hospital in support of Upstate's mission to improve the health of the communities we serve through Education, Research, and Healthcare.
Whether it's a pathologist in another state sending a specimen to us for a second opinion, or a local physician calling to discuss a difficult case, our pathologists are available to discuss procedures and results to improve patient outcomes.
Our employees are fully versed in compliance regulations including HIPAA, CPT and ICD-9 coding, ABNs, etc. We provide assistance to our clients relative to laboratory testing regulations as needed. If you have questions regarding compliance please contact Tony Kurec at 315 464-7139.
We provide extensive courier service throughout Central and Northern New York and the Southern Tier. We can establish regular daily pick-up times for your office or serve you on an "as needed" basis. To call for specimen pick up or to set up regular courier service please call 315 464-4460.
Supplies & Requisitions
We provide all specimen collection supplies, transport media, and requisitions for tests sent to our laboratory and in accordance with federal and state regulations. To order supplies call the lab at 464-4462.
STAT testing is available for many laboratory procedures. Results are called to the physician’s office as soon as they are available. Call the lab at 464-4462 for STAT turn around times, to arrange for STAT pick-up, or for an other information regarding STAT testing.
- Standard Results can be delivered by mail or courier, produced on a printer in the physician’s office, or accessed on terminals installed in the physician’s office.
- STAT Results are called to the physician and/or automatically faxed.
- Panic Values are always called to the physician and can be faxed upon request.
- Abnormal Values are highlighted on patient reports with clearly defined reference ranges.
The laboratory quality assurance program is comprehensive and includes all areas of laboratory functions from specimen pickup and test performance to delivery of timely, accurate results. Our personnel are committed to providing high quality service and laboratory results. Our pathologists and staff carry full liability insurance. Quality of service includes careful specimen handling, accurate data processing, prompt result reporting, timely delivery of supplies, and answering client questions efficiently.
