FacilitiesUniversity Hospital serves as the principal clinical facility for the training program. Outpatient clinics and a busy emergency room are staffed by orthopedic residents, and the rehabilitation unit provides programs for the preservation and restoration of function for patients with widely varied disabilities. A large portion of the surgery in this hospital is reconstructive in nature. The department offices and practice are located in the Harrison Center office building. This is located across the street from University Hospital and provides easy access to the entire campus.
The Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospital is staffed by faculty and
residents from SUNY Upstate Medical Center. The patient population comes from
a wide geographic area and represents an equally broad range of orthopedic problems.
Long term follow-ups and intensive rehabilitation programs are assets of the
unit.
Crouse Hospital is a general hospital adjacent to University Hospital with
a wing which houses the orthopedic surgery service. Residents are provided with
experience in all aspects of general and subspecialty orthopedics.
St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center is a general hospital staffed by voluntary
faculty which furnish training in orthopedics as would be seen in a typical
practice, including all subspecialty areas except oncology. St. Joseph's has
an active emergency room and has an orthopedic outpatient clinic as well. It
also provides the hospital base for the Health Science Center's Family Practice
training program.
Residents also travel with attendings to a number of local college campuses to provide regular orthopedic services to student athletes. Residents spend time at two outpatient surgery centers located at the edge of the campus while serving on hand, sports and Crouse Hospital rotations.
The Orthopedic Research Lab (Musculoskeletal Science Research Center) is located at the Institute
