Our very own Lisa Allen has authored a chapter in an ultrasound textbook! It was just published last month!
The title of the book is Diagnostic Medical Sonography: Obstetrics & Gynecology , Third Edition, Susan Raatz Stephenson (Editor).
Lisa is a contributing author and provided chapter 18 "Abnormalities of the Placenta and Umbilical Cord" . It is listed on Amazon: Diagnostic Medical Sonography: Obstetrics & Gynecology

Department welcomes two Gynecologic Oncologists

Dr. Robert Silverman, Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is pleased to announce the appointments of Dr. Mary J. Cunningham as Clinical Professor and Dr. W. Douglas Wiley Bunn as Clinical Assistant Professor. Dr. Cunningham will serve as the Chief of the Division of Gyn Oncology, and the Principal Investigator for the Gynecologic Oncology Group Clinical Trials. Dr’s Cunningham and Bunn maintain a busy clinical practice and participate in academic activities to fully support the education and supervision of medical students and residents. The addition of these new faculty members will enhance patient care and administrative missions in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and for the Upstate Medical University Community.

Regional Perinatal Center awarded reaccreditation

Recently, the Regional Perinatal Center was awarded reaccreditation through the Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Council of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). The Regional Perinatal Center achieved this recognition by meeting rigorous voluntary guidelines set by the diagnostic ultrasound profession. All facets of the practice were assessed, including the training and qualifications of physicians and sonographers; ultrasound equipment maintenance; documentation, storage, and record-keeping practices; policies and procedures to protect patients and staff; quality assurance methods; and the thoroughness, technical quality and interpretation of the ultrasound examinations performed. The Regional Perinatal Center now continues to be recognized as an accredited ultrasound practice through November, 2014.
CMATCH Department presents Research Poster Presentation in New Orleans

Dr. Aubry presented a poster presentation at the annual meeting of the National Association of Epidemiologists in December 2011. It highlighted the Department’s data analysis showing the important role of smoking in poor outcome of pregnancy and an overview of our effort to implement an aggressive “5A’s Smoking Cessation Program”.
Dean Appoints Robert K. Silverman, MD as Chair

Dean Steven Scheinman MD opened the departmental Grand Rounds on Friday February 19 to announce the appointment of a new Chair for Obstetrics and Gynecology; Robert K. Silverman, MD and Professor. He recognized the many contributions made by Dr. Shawky Badawy, MD and Professor, throughout his years in the department and as our chairman. Dr. Badawy will continue to lead the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology, and focus on patient care services, teaching, research, and publishing.
Dr. Silverman joined the department in 1991 and is the Division Chief of Maternal and Fetal Medicine. Dr. Silverman is an active clinician, and his devotion to the care of high risk maternity patients has been critical to the mission of the department. He is the Director of Obstetrics for the Regional Perinatal Program. As Chair, Dr. Silverman is recruiting several new faculty members and is working on expanding clinical service lines, research, patient safety, simulation training, and outreach services.

Chief and Senior Residents Featured at the Annual Scientific Program

Friday, May 6, 2011, each of our third and fourth year residents gave a scientific presentation to the faculty at the Marley Education Center. The residents work with a faculty advisor to analyze and present a literature review, case study, or research on a pertinent topic.
Department Faculty and Residents Present at Annual ACOG Conference

Our department was represented at the ACOG Annual Meeting in Washington DC April 30- May 4, 2011. Robert Silverman MD, gave a lecture on Morbid Obesity in Pregnancy. A poster presentation entitled Effect of Injury to the Endometrium During Embryo Transfer on Pregnancy Rate, Implantation Rate and Live Birth Weight was given by Shawky Badawy MD, Frances Shue, MD, and Chief Resident Ban Karaghouli MD. Co-author Martha Wojtowcycz PhD, is also a faculty member in the OB/GYN research team.
