FAQs

What is a Regional Perinatal Center?

The Regional Perinatal Center has been designated to serve as the regional perinatal center for 21 counties in Central New York by the State of New York, Department of Health. There are eight other regional perinatal centers throughout New York State. The Regional Perinatal Center provides care for women experiencing high risk pregnancies. In addition to offering comprehensive outpatient services, we offer consultative support for community physicians and transfer/transport of patients to Crouse Hospital, a Level 3 facility, is arranged by a patient's obstetrical provider when medically indicated.

When should I arrive for my appointment?

For your first appointment, we ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes early so we can complete the registration process.

What should I wear to my appointment?

We recommend that you wear loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to remove.

I'm having a sonogram. Should I do anything before I come in?

Yes. Drink four to six glasses of water one hour before your appointment. A full bladder moves the uterus upward and allows the sonographer to capture a clearer image.

How long should I expect my appointment to last?

Expect your first appointment to last several hours. Due to the nature of the care we provide, unexpected delays and emergencies may occur. Please be assured that we will do our best to limit the time you have to wait and that you too, will receive the attention you deserve and expect.

Who can I bring to my appointment?

We encourage you to bring a support person with you. Due to the nature of your visit, it is in your best interest to arrange child care prior to your appointment.

Will I have a sonogram at every appointment?

Sonograms are scheduled according to need and physician order.

How do I schedule an appointment?

We are a referral office. Once your physician or midwife determines that a Perinatal Center referral is needed, we will schedule the appropriate appointments in conjunction with your current health care provider.

Where do I park?

Parking is free with validation in the UHCC open lot. Please bring your receipt to your appointment for validation. In the event the lot is full, some metered parking is available as well as several pay lots in the immediate area. We regret that we cannot validate for these lots.
