Treatment of violent and aggressive children and adolescents to be focus of SUNY Upstate psychiatry conference April 11

Mental health professionals will discuss current diagnostic and treatment challenges in child and adolescent psychiatry, especially violent and aggressive children, at a conference sponsored by SUNY Upstate Medical University Thursday, April 11 from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on Carrier Circle, East Syracuse. The conference is designed for psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurse specialists, social workers and allied mental health professions. The conference will identify and address adolescent substance use disorders (SUD); advances in the diagnosis and treatment of juvenile mania; psychotherapeutic treatment of violent and aggressive children and adolescents; aggressive behavior in children; research issues and future progress on the pharmacotherapy of aggression. Presenters include Paula Riggs, M.D., of Colorado School of Medicine; Joseph Biederman, M.D., of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School; John Sargent, M.D., of Baylor College of Medicine; Jorge Armenteros, M.D., of the University of Miami School of Medicine; and Jay Giedd, M.D., of the National Institute of Mental Health.
