SUNY Upstate's vascular laboratory receives accreditation

SUNY Upstate Medical University's vascular laboratory was recognized recently for its commitment to providing high level patient care and quality testing for the diagnosis of vascular disease. SUNY Upstate achieved accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL).

SUNY Upstate is one of a select number of vascular laboratories in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to meet or exceed the ICAVL standards for noninvasive vascular testing.

"High quality with uniformity of patient care was the primary objective for creation of the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories and why the Vascular Lab at Upstate Medical University and University Hospital has been accredited for the past six years," said Steven Rideout, director of the vascular lab at SUNY Upstate. "This ideal, coupled with a mission of compassionate and efficient patient care, is what we provide to our community."

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, costing over $83.7 billion dollars each year in health services, medications and lost work time due to disability. Cardiovascular disease kills one American every 32 seconds.

The ICAVL is a non-profit organization established with the support of 11 medical societies that represent medical specialties including cardiology, neurology, radiology, vascular medicine, vascular surgery, neurosurgery and internal medicine.
