Destination Downtown: Upstate relocates 170 employees to the Galleries

SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- One hundred and seventy employees from Upstate Medical University will begin their workday, Monday, Aug. 22, at the Galleries, 441 S. Salina St. in downtown Syracuse

The employees are among 400 that will now work downtown by the end of the fall as Upstate relocates several departments from offices in Dewitt.

“Upstate is proud to call Syracuse home,” said Tom Pelis, Upstate’s assistant vice president for facilities and planning. “We’re relocating our employees to the heart of a city that is seeing renewed growth and vitality, where they can experience and support the city’s many offerings, from its restaurants, fine shops, and its various entertainment venues.

“This move also increases the efficiency of these two key functions as our personnel will be more readily available to respond to client needs," Pelis said.

When all Upstate employees are moved from Dewitt, Upstate will occupy the four and fifth floors of the Galleries (60,000 square feet), which became available with the relocation of the Onondaga County Central Library to the main floor. The fourth and fifth floors of the Galleries are owned by Onondaga County.

Pelis said he was grateful for the support of Syracuse Mayor’s Office and the Office of the County Executive, which helped facilitate the move.
