SUNY Upstate holds health careers open house Nov. 4

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A free Health Careers Open House, highlighting many of the most promising career fields in healthcare, will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, at SUNY Upstate Medical University, 766 Irving Ave. The program begins with registration in Weiskotten Hall from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m. and ends with campus tours at 11:30 a.m.

Sponsored by SUNY Upstate’s College of Health Professions and Office of Student Admissions, the open house offers high school and college students, parents, counselors, teachers and others opportunities to learn more about nine key healthcare fields: Cardiovascular Perfusion, Cytotechnology, Medical Imaging Sciences, Medical Technology and Medical Biotechnology, Physical Therapy and Radiation Therapy, Respiratory Care and Cardiorespiratory Sciences, Nursing and Medicine.

The open house will showcase how to prepare for these careers, job responsibilities, salaries, and ways to obtain volunteer or observational experience in particular fields.

In addition to the career presentations, tours of the Upstate Medical University campus will take participants to classrooms, residence halls and the student activities center. Information will also be available on the early admission program for high school seniors.

There is no cost to attend the open house. Pre-registration is preferred, though walk-ins are welcome. To register or for more information, call the Office of Student Admissions at 315-464-4570 or visit www.upstate.edu/chp

Future health careers open houses will also be held Dec. 2, 2006, and March 24, 2007.
