Upstate launches annual Community Giving Campaign to benefit area human service agencies

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Upstate Medical University employees will have the opportunity to give back to the community by giving to the university’s Community Giving Campaign.

The Community Giving Campaign is Upstate’s annual drive for donations to support various charities throughout Central New York and beyond. Through the Community Giving Campaign, employees can choose to donate to one or a combination of agencies via payroll deduction, credit card or personal check.

Last year, the Upstate community raised more than $585,000 to support local agencies that help improve the lives of others.

Upstate’s campaign and its volunteer spirit have been honored by the United Way with the Spirit of Caring Award for Volunteer Service, Leadership Service Award, and for Campaign Excellence.

“These awards are a testament to Upstate’s beneficent spirit and a recognition from others that Upstate’s support for the community is strong,” said Zanette Howe, director of Upstate’s Community Giving Campaign. “We expect support for the campaign to be strong again this year.”

Serving as co-chairs for this year’s campaign are Leslie Kohman, MD, medical director of the Upstate Cancer Center; Jeffrey Bogart, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology; and Nancy Daoust, MS FACHE, chief administrative officer of Upstate’s Community Campus.

As with last year, the campaign e-Pledge option remains the easiest way to give to the campaign and take advantage of Upstate’s two-week incentive promotion, which will feature daily $100 winners.

“As the e-Pledge donation process is still relatively new, the kick-off celebration promotes the Community Giving Campaign’s user-friendly way to donate online,” said 2014 Community Giving Campaign Co-Chair and Community Campus Chief Administrative Officer Nancy Daoust. “This method of donating features a searchable database that can help donors identify the exact agency or agencies they choose to support.”
