Humphrey named research coordinator for Upstate Medical University
Barbara Humphrey has been named research coordinator for the Research Development Office at SUNY Upstate Medical University. In this position, Humphrey assists Upstate Medical University faculty in their research and grant application efforts.
Humphrey has more than 20 years experience in the areas of grant applications and public service, having held a variety of leadership positions in Syracuse and Onondaga County.
Prior to Upstate, Humphrey served as director of the Westcott Community Center, a position she held since 1998 where she provided leadership to a center that attracts an estimated 5,000 people per year and that has an annual operating budget of $120,000. As director of planning and special projects for Hospice of Central New York (1994-1998), she oversaw the development of a $3.2 million Hospice Center. She served as director of planning for the City of Syracuse Department of Community Development (1988-1994), where she provided oversight of the city’s $11 million Community Development Block Grant, $2 million Emergency Shelter Grant and $5 million HOME programs.
A resident of Syracuse’s east side, Humphrey has been involved in numerous community volunteer activities, including service on the boards of the Covenant Housing Corp. and the Mother Marianne Cope Housing Corp. and as co-chair of the Westcott Street Cultural Fair.
