April 25 walk highlights autism awareness

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Fifth Annual “One Piece at a Time” Autism Awareness Walk will be held Sunday, April 25, at Long Branch Park in Liverpool. Registration begins at 9:15 a.m. with the walk to follow at 10 a.m. The event is sponsored by the CNY Autism Society of America and is supported by the Margaret L. Williams Developmental Evaluation Center (MLWDEC) at Upstate Medical University, Kohl’s Autism and Related Disorders Outreach Program and FEAT of CNY.
“The intent of the walk is to promote awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders including Autism, Asperger’s Disorder, PDD-NOS, Rett’s Disorder and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder throughout Syracuse and surrounding areas,” said Carroll Grant, PhD, director of the MLWDEC.
“Kohl’s Kid’s Korner” sponsored by Kohl’s Cares for Kids and the MLWDEC will feature a Playplace provided by FEAT of CNY.
T-shirts are available for $10 per shirt for adult sizes and $5 per shirt for children’s sizes. Advance orders are encouraged, as there will only be a limited number of shirts available at the Walk.
This year, walkers will have the opportunity to collect pledges in support of the walk; however, it is not a requirement to participate. Visit http://www.cnyasa.org/cnyasa-walk_pledge_form_2010.pdf for a copy of the pledge form.
To register, call 315-464-8668 or toll-free at 1-800-464-8668. For more information, e-mail cnyasa@yahoo.com.
