SUNY Upstate Medical University welcomes new students to campus Aug. 20 to 24
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — SUNY Upstate Medical University will welcome nearly 425 new students and their family members to campus Aug. 20 through 24 with a full schedule of orientation activities that include white coat ceremonies, tours, academic and informational sessions and social events.
Orientation activities begin Aug.20; classes begin Aug. 25.
SUNY Upstate’s College of Medicine will welcome 160 new students; the College of Health Professions will welcome 122 new students; the College of Nursing will welcome 120 new students and 23 new students will join the College of Graduate Studies.
“We are delighted to welcome these new students to the Upstate campus,” said Julie R. White, Ph.D., dean of student affairs. “We have been planning for their arrival for some time and we look forward to their participation in our renewed student orientation program.”
A President’s Welcome Convocation for parents and students will be held Aug. 21, at 2 p.m. in the Oncenter Ballroom in downtown Syracuse.
Other events include the College of Medicine’s Dinner with a Doctor.; the College of Graduate Studies’ Dinner with a Research Scientist.; and a dinner for students in the colleges of Health Professions and Nursing.
The colleges of Medicine, Health Professions and Nursing also will present White Coat ceremonies.
The College of Medicine (COM) and the Medical Alumni Foundation will hold a White Coat ceremony Aug. 20, at 5:30 p.m. in the Oncenter Ballroom. Each COM freshman will receive a white coat made possible by a grant from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield to the Parents and Family Association of the Medical Alumni Foundation. The grant also supports a reception following the ceremony.
The College of Health Professions will host a White Coat ceremony for students and family members Aug. 27, at 5 p.m. in 9295 Weiskotten Hall, 766 Irving Avenue, Syracuse. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.
The College of Nursing will host its first White Coat ceremony for all nursing students Sept. 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the Ninth Floor Auditorium in Weiskotten Hall, 766 Irving Avenue, Syracuse. The College of Nursing Alumni Association will present each undergraduate nursing student with a gift and each graduate nursing student with a white coat.
