Gary Barg, author of the ?The Fearless Caregiver’ to be featured speaker at Alzheimer’s disease conference June 9
SYRACUSE, N.Y.— Gary Barg, founder and editor-in-chief of Today’s Caregiver and author of “The Fearless Caregiver,” will deliver the keynote address at SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Alzheimer’s 2008 Conference June 5. The conference runs from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Justin’s Grill and Conference Center, 6400 Yorktown Circle, East Syracuse.
“The Fearless Caregiver,” subtitled “How to Get the Best Care for Your Loved One and Still Have a Life of Your Own,” is a step-by-step guide to becoming the ultimate caregiver. One of Barg’s primary tenets to caregiving is that family caregivers need to be treated with respect from all members of their loved one’s medical teams.
His magazine, Today’s Caregiver (www.caregiver.com), provides indepth articles on the science of caregiving and often covers caregiving stories about celebrities, such as Meredith Vieira, whose husband has multiple sclerosis.
The conference also features presentations from Sharon Brangman, M.D., professor of medicine and chief of geriatric medicine, on “What’s New and Next in the Treatment of Alzheimer’s disease”; Jeanne Bishop, M.D., associate professor of medicine, on “Food for Thought”; and Christine Heagle Bahn, a nurse practitioner, and Cindy Nigolian, a clinical nurse specialist, on “When Hospitalization Happens.”
Conference registration fee is $45 for the general public. To register, call 315-464-5167.
