Public diabetes forum Nov. 14 to commemorate World Diabetes Day

In recognition of World Diabetes Day Nov. 14, the Joslin Diabetes Center at SUNY Upstate Medical University and the American Diabetes Association will sponsor the Central New York Diabetes Forum to be held Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Convention Center at OnCenter, 800 S. State St., Syracuse. The event is free and open to the public. Parking at the OnCenter is discounted for those attending the forum.

The event brings together physicians, nurses, dieticians from SUNY Upstate Medical University, who will discuss a variety of issues related to living with diabetes. Paula Trief, Ph.D., a SUNY Upstate professor of psychiatry, will present “Challenges of Living with Diabetes” at 6 p.m. Trief has published numerous studies on the psychological issues related to living with diabetes and the disease’s impact on family members. From 7 to 8 p.m., special sessions will discuss “Kids and Pumps,” “Medications and Diabetes” and “Meal Planning.” A vendor fair opens the event from 5 to 6 p.m. For more information and to register, call 1-800-464-8668.
