Middle States Commission on Higher Education

Upstate Medical University was most recently reviewed by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) in the 2018-2019 academic year through a comprehensive evaluation  which resulted in the reaffirmation of our accreditation. The next evaluation visit will take place in 2026-2027.

The 2018-2019 self-study was the result of a university-wide collaborative process, involving over 100 faculty, staff, and students. The self-study preparation process culminated in the submission of a self-study report and a site visit by evaluators who reported to the MSCHE in the fall of 2018. Through the self-study process, working groups addressed our compliance with each accreditation standard and our process of continuous evaluation, planning, budgeting and improvement. On this website, you will find information about the structure of these working groups, guidelines from the MSCHE on conducting a self-study, and Upstate accreditation reports submitted to MSCHE over the past several years.

Following the reaffirmation of our accreditation in 2018-2019, Upstate is committed to monitoring compliance with accreditation standards and progress towards meeting the goals set by the Self-Study Steering Committee. Those goals, aligned with the Tier 1 Strategic Plan objectives, include:

  1. Improve the Culture of Trust
  2. Advance diversity, equity, and inclusion
  3. Enhance academic rigor, innovation, and reputation
  4. Strengthen the quality of data and reporting to strengthen planning and improvement
