Contributions to the Medical Alumni Parents' FundIf you are the parent, grandparent, or relative of a student at SUNY Upstate Medical University, please consider giving to the Parents' Fund. Contributions are applied directly to the needs of students in a very practical sense. Parents' Fund projects impact students in each year of medical school and were developed from student surveys. Some examples are as follows: 1st year: The White Coat Ceremony and Family ReceptionEach first-year medical student receives a lab coat at
a family ceremony during orientation. The "coating" signifies the responsibilities
associated with the profession of healing. A festive reception,
also funded by the Parents' and Family Association, follows.
Event sponsored, in part, by a grant from the Onondaga
County Medical Society. 2nd year: First Aid for the USMLE Step 1Each second-year medical student receives a personal copy of First Aid for the USMLE Step 1. This book is the number one resource used by medical students in preparation for the Step 1 exam. 3rd year: Reference GuidesThe third year begins the clinical rotation phases of medical education. Each student will receive a copy of Maxwell's Quick Medical Reference and the Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia. These pocket reference guides are indispensable throughout one's medical career. 4th year: Bridge Day Dinner DanceA memorable dinner dance celebration that caps off a day of finale-type events for the class in anticipation of their Residency Match! This final class social event creates lasting memories and friendships that will remain for a lifetime. Contribute Today!Your support is vital to our on-going mission to serve our medical students.
