We truly appreciate the support our alumni, parents, faculty and friends have shown the Upstate Medical Alumni Foundation over the years. Students depend on those who recognize the importance of supporting the issues they believe in and continued support from all of our donors is the lifeline that allows our College of Medicine to thrive and grow.
Since its founding in 1955, generations have expressed their passion for the Upstate Medical Alumni Foundation by making a commitment to its future. There are many ways to give to Upstate and every gift, regardless of size, is appreciated.
Like most other colleges and universities across the country, the Upstate Medical Alumni Foundation relies on unrestricted annual support from alumni, parents, and friends. Every year, thousands of alumni and friends make Upstate's College of Medicine a top priority by making an annual gift. Annual gifts provide the Medical Alumni Foundation the necessary resources to fund opportunities for our students like recruitment and merit scholarships, textbooks, our Career Advisory Network and other programmatic efforts and classroom equipment. Your annual campaign gift truly makes a difference!
An Association is only as great as its people. The Upstate Medical Alumni Association relies on membership contributions from alumni which provide a variety of resources and sponsored events to you each year.
Due to your support last year, the Medical Alumni Association was able to:
Patricia J. Numann Endowed Chair in Surgery Campaign
In honor of her life's work and outstanding dedication, SUNY Upstate is creating its first endowed chair - the Patricia J. Numann MD, Chair of Surgery. Through its research and patient care funds, this endowment will help attract more fine surgeons like Dr. Numann. For more information, please visit the campaign website.
Endowing Your Own Fund
An endowment is a fund created by gifts totaling at least $25,000 that are permanently set aside by the Upstate Medical Alumni Foundation Inc. to provide benefits to students, faculty or various programs on campus. The ability to help deserving students through scholarship support has never been more vital. Seventy-seven percent of our College of Medicine students shoulder an average annual debt of $33,707, resulting in a total debt of $140,000 upon graduation. For more information on endowing a scholarship, please visit our Endowment Fund Q&A page.
Parents and Family Association
The mission of the Parents and Family Association is to foster a sense of community between parents of medical students and the College of Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Its goal is two-fold - to keep parents informed about what is happening in their students' lives, and to afford parents an opportunity to ensure continuation of the tradition of excellence in medical education for today's students and those who will follow. The Parents' Fund was created as an adjunct of the Medical Alumni Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
Building and Classrooms Fund
Each year, the Upstate Medical Alumni Foundation strives to ensure that our students are afforded the best resources and opportunities available. Campaigns such as our Honoring Your Family's Doctor, where a gift of $250 names a chair in honor of the doctor in your family is a great example. Because of this campaign and the on-going Setnor Academic Building and Medical Alumni Auditorium drives, our students are able to attend lectures and exams in well-designed, comfortable lecture halls with state-of-art technology.
Reunion Class Giving
Part of the reunion celebration that has become increasingly important to the College of Medicine, is your Reunion Class gift. We ask all those celebrating a Reunion to make a class or "stretch" gift in the spirit of class giving and participation. For most of you, your College of Medicine experience at Upstate Medical University was the turning point in your lives. With your support, academic opportunities and personal growth experiences will benefit your College of Medicine's current and future students.
Our Legacy Society recognizes those who have provided for a gift to the College of Medicine in their estate plans. This society allows us to give these donors the recognition they deserve during their lifetime. For more information on the Legacy Society, please visit our Philanthropic Societies web page.
Gifts in Memory or Honor of an Alumnus or Friend
