The SUNY Upstate Medical University seeks, admits, and provides benefits without regard to a student's:

  • race

  • marital status
  • sexual orientation
  • age
  • national origin

Access to quality higher education remains a cornerstone of the State University of New York. The composition of the SUNY Upstate Medical University admissions pool is becoming more diverse as a result of its supportive programs, and as more women and individuals from underrepresented ethnic groups seek careers in the health professions. Sixty percent of the graduate college enrollment are female and 40 percent of the College of Medicine.

The 1997 commencement conferred graduate degrees to 38 minority students out of a graduate population of 153 in the colleges of graduate studies and medicine.
