Program Admission Requirements

Students interested in applying for entrance to the MD/PhD Program at the SUNY Upstate Medical University will need to have completed all of the requirements for admission to the College of Medicine as outlined in the College of Medicine's admissions package. In addition, the applicant must provide evidence of sufficient research experience to assure that he or she has reached an informed decision regarding the desirability of a dual career path. In general, successful applicants will have spent at least a summer, or its equivalent, engaged in full-time research.

Candidates for admission to the MD/PhD Program are evaluated on the basis of their undergraduate record, test scores, research experience, and letters of recommendation. It is expected that candidates have challenged themselves to attain a very high level of achievement. Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree or equivalent, and knowledge of physics, chemistry (inorganic and organic), biology, and mathematics.
