Library Upgrades Search Software
The Health Sciences Library is pleased to announce that it has upgraded the user interface used to search for information in the library. The library is now using a web based system to access such popular resources as Medline, Current Contents, CINAHL, and PSYCINFO. While this web access has been available through the librarys home page- for some time, it is now the search engine of choice in the Health Sciences Library. By switching to a web interface you have the option of choosing from many more resources than were available on the terminal based DOS system. For example, our Ovid Web Medline has 80 full text medical journals from which you can print the entire article.
There is full text access to Harrisons Textbook of Medicine and the Merck Manual. You can also search the librarys version of Medline called, FASTMED which is not only fast, but you can limit your results to journals held by the Health Sciences Library. There are three different Evidence Based Medicine resources available (two with full text capability and the third providing reviews of the literature). The librarys multLis Catalog is being changed to a web interface and will be searchable through this option. All of the workstations in the library will eventually have a web interface. At present we are maintaining the older DOS version (blue screens)of the Ovid software on two of the machines in the Reference area and will continue to do so until January 1, 1999. CDLink, which is the Ovid DOS version of Medline on the VAX, will be available to search for the foreseeable future. The reference staff is available to help you with any questions concerning the new system. For any questions please call the reference desk at 464-4581.
