The Health Information Center provides resources necessary
to support consumers in health-related decision making, health promotion
and illness management. Additionally, HIC assists health care providers
seeking information resources for patient education and consumer health
information. James Capodagli is the Head of the Health Information
Center.

| History of Medicine — 315-464-4585 |
| The Historical Collections Department on the 2nd floor is a special
collection of rare books, journals, documents, photographs, medical instuments
and other materials for the study of the history of medicine, especially
in Central New York, and the history of SUNY Upstate Medical University
and its predecessor schools. The collections are open for research. The
department has a Reading Room on the 2nd floor for researchers using historical
collections and reference assistance is provided in person, by email, and
telephone. A collection of secondary works on the history of medicine is
also available in open stacks on the 2nd floor, including a collection
of circulating books and a non-circulating reference collection.

The Interlibrary Loan Department obtains journal articles,
books and other materials not held in the Health Sciences Library from

The Library Systems Department maintains the local library
management system software, as well as the Library computer hardware and
software. Patricia Onsi is the Head of Library Systems.

| Media Services |
Media Services supports programs in the Colleges of
Medicine, Health Professions, Nursing and Graduate Studies and educational
programs conducted in University Hospital. The Media Collection includes
audiotapes, videotapes, CD-ROMs, and slides. The department also maintains
a computer learning center. Christine Kucharski is the Head of Media
Services.

The Reference and Educational Services Department assists patrons in
effective use of information resources, such as databases, catalogs, and
print and electronic collections. Reference Librarians staff the Reference
Desk and conduct educational programs for Upstate staff and students.
