Computers for Research: Reference Area
There are ten (10) computers in the Reference Area that are the intended primarily for research in health and medicine, and for using Library databases and online resources. Access to the Internet and to email is also available. Although these computers are open to any Library user for health related research, priority will be given to Upstate/VA staff and students. Reference librarians are available to help with selecting databases, formulating searches, and locating information.
Each Dell OptiPlex GX280 computer is equipped with:
- 17” Flat Panel Monitor
- CD-RW/DVD Player
- Floppy Drive
- USB ports
Each system has the follow software installed:
- Microsoft Windows 2000
- Microsoft Office 2003
- Internet Browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozillia FireFox & Netscape)
- Acrobat Reader
- RefWorks
- Campus GroupWise Web Access Mail client
- Sonic Record Now (Used to create or copy CD’s)
All of the computers in the Reference Area are setup to print to a LaserJet 9000 printer that is in the Reference Area and is connected to our Pay for Print system.

Dedicated to CD-ROM use: Science Citation Index 1989-1995

Visitor Computers (near the coffee machine)
Available for use by visitors for general or recreational access to the
Internet
Policies:

During times of heavy use, priority will be given to Upstate/VA students
and staff. Non-Upstate or recreational users may be asked to move to the
Visitor computers.

Installing new software without permission is not allowed.
