Paul H. Swerdlow Endowment
The Health Information Center (HIC) is funded through the
Paul H. Swerdlow endowment. Money for this fund comes from a

Soon after leukemia took the life of her son, Paul, at the age of only 41, Mrs. Gertrude Swerdlow and her late husband, Irving, formed Families Against Cancer Terror (FACT). This Syracuse-based advocacy group had grown to about 25,000 members in all 50 states.
As a way thanking the Library for assistance provided, and to try to help others who may find themselves in similar circumstances, Mrs. Swerdlow has graciously donated a generous sum to the endowment fund of the Health Information Center (HIC), named in memory of her son.
Upstate Medical
University Gala
The Library is very pleased to announce a new source of
permanent funding for the Health Information Center. After
approval by Dr. Gregory A. Eastwood, President, Upstate
Medical University, the SUNY Research Foundation has given a
portion of the proceeds from the 1997 Gala to the Library to
be placed into a permanent endowment fund. The annual
interest income generated from the endowment will ensure
funding to purchase some of the resource materials needed by
the HIC in the foreseeable future. The endowment fund will
also be used for future gifts to the HIC.
Advocates
Over several years, the Advocates of Upstate Medical University has awarded
grants to the HIC for various purposes. The HIC has purchased anatomical models
and a beautiful display case for these models.
Friend
In Deed
In 2002, the Friend in Deed
campaign, awarded money for the purhcase of 40 high quality videos. These
will soon be added to the HIC collection.
