Clinical Research
The Clinical Research Division of the ICR plans to provide a variety of new, innovative clinical treatments for pediatric cardiology, adult cardiology, cardiac surgery and vascular surgery patients.
At the ICR, physician-scientists from these SUNY Upstate clinical specialties work together with faculty researchers at the institute's four other divisions to turn medical research into medical realities.
Specifically, the Clinical Research Division expects to offer exciting, new treatments for genetic cardiac diseases, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, intermittent claudication, cardiac arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, stroke and sudden cardiac death.
Patients who volunteer to participate in clinical research at the ICR will receive the latest medical treatments, most of which are not available outside of a research environment. These clinical research studies are monitored by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and by local, ethical committees known as Institution Review Boards (IRB). The ICR's Clinical Division intends to work with physicians throughout Central New York, who also would like to make these new treatments available to their patients. This would enable the ICR to serve a wide population at many convenient locations.
